Curriculum for Students Ages 8 to 11
We firmly believe that proper technique is the basis for all future dance success. For children ages eight to 11, our classes emphasize developing exacting technique for all the dance forms we offer (except for pointe, which can not be taken yet). The learning atmosphere is fun and high-energy. Dancers get a taste of performing for an audience, either at our end-of-year recital or by auditioning for our Christmas parades. For students that are involved in gymnastics or cheerleading, dance can enhance their performance in these other activities.
It is important to note that we offer beginner-level classes for students in this age group. Just because your 11-year-old child has not taken dance before, doesn’t mean he or she will be in a class with seven-year-olds.
For this age group, we offer:
- Ballet
- Tap
- Jazz
- Lyrical
- Hip Hop
The goals of these classes include:
- To develop flexibility and strength in feet, legs, and back
- To listen to instruction, focus, and problem solve
- To foster internal motivation and to taste the satisfaction that comes with seeing self-improvement
- To have fun and enhance a lifelong love of dance
